The temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD ) is an alteration of the structures that make up the joint.

Bruxism:

Is the excessive grinding of the teeth and/or excessive clenching of the jaw.. Early diagnosis can prevent , among other complications , premature tooth wear. Stress is one of the main causes of bruxism.

As an involuntary habit, it is difficult to establish measures to prevent bruxism , except preventing the only known cause , stress.

A high level of stress or anxiety during the day can trigger episodes of bruxism at night (and even during the day) . Therefore , if the period of stress is prolonged , we must take measures to reduce or eliminate the problem before it causes other disorders.

Symptoms:

Some options to try to prevent bruxism (at least the night) are:

Practice some sports that help us to release stress and sleep better;
• Avoid drinking coffee and other exciting drinks before going to bed;
• Try to have moments of rest and relaxation among the most stressful activities of everyday life;
• Find ways to relax before going to sleep, listening to soothing music for example.
Early diagnosis is very important to avoid side effects and complications such as premature wear of teeth.
